Petersfield in Bloom

Conservative Councillor James Deane of Petersfield supporting Votes for Women.  Cllr Deane organised an additional Category in Petersfield’s Annual “Petersfield in Bloom” Competition.  Category 14 was a flower arrangement to commemorate not only the Armistice but also the advances in Women’s Suffrage in 1918.  Seen here with the Winners of the Suffrage Award: The residents of Downs House Care Home.  Cllr Deane’s Grandmother (Mary Reid Macarthur) was a leading Suffragist and one of the first women to stand for Parliament in the 1918 Coupon or Khaki Election.
